Sunday School
Sunday School meets most Sunday mornings of the year, September through May, at 9:15am. Children learn the basic stories of the Bible in an interactive format, using the “Faithweavers” material.
They’re encouraged to memorize Scripture verses, invite their friends, and practice their faith by helping others. Projects that Sunday School children have been involved with include sending packages to military personnel, buying gifts for needy families at Christmas, and walking door to door to collect canned goods for the hungry. A Sunday School Christmas drama is performed by the children every year, and is performed not only at the church, but at a local senior care center as well. Cathy Warner is our Sunday School superintendent.
The children also participate in social events throughout the year, such as overnighters and swim and skating parties
Vacation Bible School
Summer Vacation Bible School is a strong tradition at POL, and attracts many of our neighborhood children. Two VBS experiences have been scheduled for Summer 2008:
Kid’s Creation Corner - June 23-27, 2008
5th through 8th graders
A fun-filled week sharing God’s message through
drama, making friends, singing,
creating puppets, and joyfully
worshiping God! Register |
Vacation Bible School - July 7-11, 2008 4-year-olds through 4th graders
A more traditional morning VBS for 4-year-olds through 4th graders. Register |
Confirmation Program
7th and 8th graders learn the basics of the Christian faith, as seen through a Lutheran lens, in a class Sunday mornings at 9:15, taught by Pastor John and lay teachers. Beach retreats, service projects, and a week at Camp Lutherwood in the summer round out the confirmation experience.
High School
Our high schoolers are particularly tuned into service! Sunday mornings can find them learning about the needs of the community, or passing out lunches to the homeless in Portland after worship. (see Youth page) |
Adult Education and Bible Study
Adults meet for their own Bible and topical classes on Sunday morning at 9:15 throughout the school year, and throughout the week in afternoon and evening sessions. Topics include books of the Bible, as well as classes on parenting, social issues, and ways to grow in the spiritual practices.
